Triple H Recalls HBK Throwing Script at Vince When They Tried to Script DX

Triple H was a guest on Loudwire’s Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction, clarifying who actually thought of the D-Generation X name, as well as Vince McMahon’s reactions backstage to their edgy promos when the stable was first formed. Highlights are below. 
On who thought of the D-Generation X name: “I believe the name came from Shane. The first time I ever heard it was from Shane. Bret had said we were nothing but a bunch of degenerates. Like, there just losers, a bunch of degenerates.” 
“But Shane was saying to somebody in, I believe the first time I ever heard it was, he was saying to somebody, yeah, but these guys represent like, they’re young, and this is kids today, they’re like generation X, they are that thing that thing. He combined the two, and he was like, it’s like degenerates, but they’re degeneration X, like D-Generation X. That was the first time I ever heard it, and then we flipped it into a promo. That’s when we said it live was Bret said it in a promo, ‘You’re nothing but a bunch of loser degenerates,’ and then Shawn said, ‘No, we’re degenerates, we’re generation X, we are D-Generation X.’ And that was the first time we said it.” 
On Vince McMahon’s original reaction to DX’s edgy material: “Vince was hesitant about almost everything we were doing at first. Theres a period of time in the very beginning of this where every week when we would come back, he would ream us. ‘You guys are going to get us thrown off the air!’ And Shawn was the guy, because Shawn was so talented, he could get away with things that to this day, I still can’t believe that he would do this, but Vince, it’s almost like Vince saw himself as a Dad to Shawn and felt like, ‘I can’t throw this kid out because he will self-destruct so I have to keep him with me to teach him how to be something more.’ So he would put up with these things to try to mold him into being something better. I was the guy that was just next to him going, ‘Geez, I hope I don’t get fired.’ When Vince is mad, his eyes change. And I can remember being in the ring and him, this is when we were unscripted, very unscripted, and I remember them saying, ‘And then Shawn will cut a promo, you’re going to cut a promo, you can do it directly to Vince’ and the whole thing, and I’m like, ‘How far can I go?” And he was like, ‘Go where you think you can.’ That’s what he told me backstage. And I remember cutting the promo and being in his face, and when we walked backstage, he was pissed, but when I went to him and I said, ‘Was that OK?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, that was fine,’ and walked away from me.” 
On starting to get letters from USA Network about getting thrown off the air: “Every week we were getting it, there’s a flip point on that, and it’s kind of a cool story, where USA was now starting to send letters that we were gonna get thrown off the air. USA then sent the letter to us that said, here’s a very distinct, from 8 to whatever the hours we were on the air, ‘From 8 to 9, or whatever it was, D-Generation X, this group, they can’t say these words, they can’t do this, they can’t do that, from 9 to 10, we’re OK with them doing this, but they still can’t say that and do this.’ And when we got to TV that day, Vince was like, ‘You guys happy? Look at that, you’re gonna get us taken off the air,’ and the whole thing. But, things were starting to click. We had both noticed that Vince was starting to get less vocal about screaming at us when we came back. It was like, rather than a 10 minute promo, it was a 5 minute promo. So, he’s like, ‘What do you guys want to do about this? We gotta straighten this stuff out, guys.’ And we were like, let’s use it. And that’s when we did the, it’s the Bill Clinton promo in front of the podium where we say every horrible thing, we basically verbatim, some of it read off the sheet of paper that they had sent us, and beeped it out, and did this whole big thing, and it started the show. Vince thought it was funny, it was like, we’ll see what happens, worst thing that can happen, they hate it, and we’re headed down that road anyways. We did it, and shortly thereafter we got a letter that said, ‘Bravo on using the letter for something entertaining and the numbers are going up, congrats.’ And that was like the, somebody came and clicked the handcuffs off us and DX was free to go do what we were doing.” 
On Shawn Michaels throwing paper off Vince McMahon’s forehead in response to WWE trying to script them: “And then it started to become encouraged and then they wanted to try to script us, and I remember Shawn crumbling a piece of paper, throwing it and bouncing it off Vince’s forehead, and saying, ‘You didn’t write it before, you ain’t writing it now,’ and walking out of the room, and I was like, ‘I’m just going to go with him.’ It was tense but it was good.” Click Here: parramatta eels rugby store

Was Hulk Hogan versus Mike Tyson Ever a Possibility?

On the latest Something to Wrestle With, Bruce Prichard recalled Mike Tyson being signed to referee a match between Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage in 1990 and if a match between Hogan and Tyson was planned. Tyson was signed and announced to be the guest referee for a match between Hogan and Savage at The Main Event III on NBC in February of 1990, with speculation at the time being that there may be a match planned between Hogan and Tyson at WrestleMania VI due to comments both men made and the amount that Tyson was set to be paid seeming to be too much for a free TV appearance. However, reports at the time said this didn’t seem to be the case.
The whole thing became moot after Tyson lost to Buster Douglas in one of the biggest upsets in sports history two weeks before the show, and Tyson backed out of the appearance. Highlights from this part of the discussion, and the full podcast, are below:
On if a Hogan vs. Tyson match was ever discussed: “Sure. I mean, the prospect of actually having Hulk Hogan vs. the baddest man on the planet, Mike Tyson, without a doubt is always going to be discussed. I don’t care who’s in what place, you always talk about who’s the best and who would win in wrestler vs. boxer. And there probably were not two bigger stars in the galaxy than Hulk Hogan and Mike Tyson at the time. So yeah, it was discussed. However, dealing with Don King who was Mike’s promoter and manager at the time, that can always be a little tricky and walking through landmines as well. But Mike always loved the business. Mike grew up watching wrestling, and he absolutely loved the business and had a lot of respect for it. So there was always — I think that there was always potential there to do something with Mike.”
On why they opted not to do a match between the two: “But the reality of ever getting to that? What the hell do you do with it. You can’t beat Tyson, you can’t beat Hulk. And it was not a situation where both guys could look good. Using Mike’s name and having Mike be a big part of something we were doing, yeah. F**k yeah. And the biggest match on PPV, the biggest draw on PPV up to this point was Randy Savage vs. Hulk Hogan from WrestleMania V. The return in primetime on NBC for The Main Event to air live on a Friday night, to add Mike Tyson’s name into that? Come on, you’ve got the three biggest names at that time on PPV in one match. That was huge, and that was Vince’s goal all along, was to get Mike involved somehow. And I don’t think Mike was even available for WrestleMania at the time.”Click Here: custom gaa jerseys

Ryback: “I’m never going to watch IMPACT Wrestling”

Ryback Doesn’t Agree With Impact’s Decision To Put The World Title On Tessa Blanchard
Ryback gave his thoughts on Tessa Blanchard winning the Impact World Title and agreed with the sentiment Booker T expressed on a recent episode of his podcast. Highlights are below.
On Tessa winning The World Title :
I don’t watch IMPACT Wrestling, I’m never going to watch IMPACT Wrestling. Even when it was TNA, I just never been into it. It’s weird to me. And I say this from the standpoint of, if Brock Lesnar came out and all of a sudden wanted to be the Women’s Champion, is that okay? He wants to feel more feminine. There’s a reason why they have titles and things of that nature and I don’t understand going that way. If they’re just trying to get people talking, it’s not good way. Booker T is not wrong. It’s nothing against Tessa, she’s just the talent. Obviously the company wanted to go that direction. She’s just doing her job. Now, does she defend her title against the women? What about the other men on the roster? Where do you go from it? Why do you have all these different titles? Why not have the one title and let men and women fight over time then. I think there would be outrage among women if, in all of sports, men just wanted to fight for women’s titles. ‘I’m gonna be the women’s champion. I deserve it. Why can’t I?’ There would be so many arguments why you shouldn’t do that, right? So why is it okay to go the other way? I feel like this women’s empowerment thing, that’s not the play.
On divisions in wrestling:
If an all out war broke out in the world, men vs. women, who do you think is going to be standing at the end of the day? It’s men, all day long. It’s not that women aren’t capable. I don’t know why we’re blurring the lines on this. I’m happy for Tessa that she got to achieve that. It’s part of the bigger problem in wrestling and why it’s not drawing anymore. We’ve thrown all the rules out the window.
On creating buzz:

Brandi Rhodes Does Therapy Session in AEW Video

AEW has released a new video of Brandi Rhodes’ first therapy session. You can see it below. Brandi says in the video that Cody asked her to come because he’s worried about her, and when asked denies that she had a head injury at work before the video cuts to her suffering exactly that from the Cody vs. Sammy Guevara match on the first episode of Dynamite. The therapist then asks about the Nightmare Collective and Brandi talks about Awesome Kong, Mel, and Luther. The therapist suggests that the group is a cult, which sets Brandi off.
The therapist then suggests that Brandi has created an alter ego to help cope with the fact that people don’t like her. Brandi says she “nailed it” and that she doesn’t have to be “this person.” She says they’ve made progress and that there’s nothing wrong with her, heading out of the session.Click Here: factory direct women products

La Parka’s Son To Take Over Late Father’s Persona

It was reported earlier this month that AAA star La Parka passed away at the age of 56. LA Park, the original La Parka previously said that he wasn’t going to take back the name after Parka’s passing. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that La Parka’s son is expected to take over the role in some form, but this will not happen any time soon. AAA believes the character is part of the promotion’s legacy.

Cary Silkin talks about ROH having a rough 2019

“Going back to the beginning of 2019, we lost seven guys simultaneously. We know who those guys were. Then we had the MSG show which, for me, was the thrill of a lifetime. Some people tear it up and say the New Japan stuff was good and the ROH stuff could have been better. All I know was that I was in Madison Square Garden. Following that we just went into a slump. AEW came out. NXT was competing against them and ROH was in a slump. The wrestling’s still okay but I’ve experienced these slumps prior. In September of 2009 we simultaneously lost Bryan and Nigel at the Hammerstein. If that wasn’t going to kill us, then I don’t know what would. That was the show Jim Cornette came back and we also brought back two-time champion Homicide. Then Tyler really elevated. Davey Richard, Eddie Edwards – so I’ve been through this before. To bring it back to 2019-20, we were just in one of those slumps. But with the turn of the decade, things are looking better. Our relationship with New Japan is well. We’re working with Dave Lagana and Billy Corgan with NWA again. Right now, the stock is going up and the stock in wrestling, in general, is going up.”

Jon Jones says it’s ‘inevitable’ that he will work with WWE

Jones recently told Sports Illustrated that he thinks he will do something with WWE one day. “I think it’s inevitable,” said Jones. “I’ve always respected WWE, and I feel like the sports can be so similar.”
