Vink Chemicals establishes partnership with Nanox

Vink Chemicals is partnering with Nanox, a Brazilian expert in silver nanoparticle-based products.

Nanox Intelligent Materials develops, produces and distributes nanostructured materials for everyday products and supplies industries such as retail, food, textiles and architecture and design. The company is specialised in the use of inorganic biocides based on nanoparticles of silver.

“Nanox inorganic biocides are an excellent complement to our Technical Biocides product line,” explains David Zilm, Chief Sales Officer at Vink Chemicals. In contrast to organic biocides from Vink Chemicals, inorganic biocides are designed for the long-term preservation and protection of surfaces against microorganisms. They are also used where organic biocides cannot be used, such as in paper packaging, masterbatches, rubbers or resins.

Organic and inorganic biocides

For applications such as plastic or paper packaging for the food sector, and coatings for use in medical facilities such as hospitals, Vink Chemicals will take over the distribution of Nanox biocides outside Brazil. Within the country, Vink Chemicals also distributes the products in markets where Nanox is not active itself, such as polymers, silicon, wood and food. In return, Nanox Intelligent Materials will also offer Vink Chemicals’ organic biocides to its customers within its home market of Brazil.

After signing a joint letter of interest in December 2021, the two companies are currently implementing the structures for cooperation, such as technical training for sales, evaluating the markets and creating an action plan.

Your Ultimate Guide to Curl Types

Straight hair is fairly straightforward — pun intended. But when it comes to curly hair, there’s more to curls than just kinky, wavy and ringlets. Knowing details about your curl pattern can transform your hair in more ways than one.

Some curl types need more moisture, while others benefit from more protective styles. Knowing your curl type can lead to a better understanding of your hair’s needs, so you can have a better relationship with it. If you’re curious about curl types, this guide will help you untangle fact from fiction. Plus, discover the best all-natural and vegan products made to soothe and revive curly, frizzy and frazzled hair.

What Are Curl Types?

Whether you have straight or kinky hair, your hair type is determined by your genetics, but you can alter your curl pattern with chemicals or heat. Your visible curl pattern is in your DNA, but changing hormones and certain medications can also impact how your hair falls.

Decoding your curl type can initially be confusing because there can be several different hair textures on your head at any one time. For example, the hair texture around your crown might be flatter than the tightly coiled strands that frame your face. Thankfully, there is a system to decipher and identify your kind of curls. The amount of curl in your hair is determined by your hair follicles. The more asymmetric or oval-shaped each hair follicle is, the curlier your hair will be.

The Curl Pattern Chart

Cosmetologist and Oprah Winfrey’s longstanding hairstylist Andre Walker designed The Hair Chart in the 1990s to classify the different hair types. It was initially created to help Walker recommend his product line to various clients, but the industry quickly adopted the curl type chart to classify multiple patterns and hair types.

According to Walker’s chart, there are four different types of visible curl patterns:

  • Type 1: Straight hair
  • Type 2: Wavy hair
  • Type 3: Curly hair
  • Type 4: Coily hair

“These initial types are then further defined into subcategories based on the looseness or tightness of your curls,” said hairstylist Alice Rawling. “The curl chart has numbers 1 to 4; number 1 represents the straightest hair, while 4 is the curliest hair type. It also has the letter A-C, indicating how loose or tight the curls can be. A is loose, while C is tight. The types of hairs can be straight, wavy, curly and coiled. Type A is the widest hair pattern, B is the medium and C is the slim hair pattern.”

    Caring for Each Curl Type

According to Rawling, how you take care of your hair depends on your curl type. “Curly hair has drier strands and wavy hair tangles easily,” she said. “Tight coils and kinks are susceptible to shrinkage, while slim-width hair curls are prone to breakage and damage. A person with curly hair should look for products that add definition and hydration to their hair; wavy hair needs more texture and grip. One should know their hair type to know the products to use for maintenance.”

    Type 2: Wavy

This bendable hair type ranges from fine to coarse in texture and has a definitive S pattern that lays close to the head.

    2A Hair

People with a 2A hair type generally have a barely-there tousled texture that is easy to straighten with heat styling. Those with 2A-type hair should steer clear of heavy styling creams oils that might weigh each hair strand down.

    2B Hair

This type of hair has natural volume and defined S-shape waves. Starting at the mid-lengths, the strands are thicker than type 2A hair and will be harder to straighten. For beachy waves with a touseled appeal, a texturizing spray that doesn’t make the hair crunchy will give you a well-defined look.

    2C Hair

The S-bends in 2C hair are defined and the hair texture is often thick and potentially frizzy. To reduce frizz and help curls keep their shape, use a gentle but powerful all-natural shampoo formulated without sulfates to make sure the strands stay full of moisture. A leave-in conditioner on wet hair will help boost natural waves and prioritize hydration.

    Type 3: Curly

Type 3 curls can range from loopy, buoyant locks to tight corkscrew curls. The hair can be shiny, but it can also be prone to frizz.

    3A Hair

3A curls are essentially loose and shiny. The diameter of each curl is approximately the size of a piece of sidewalk chalk and styling cream used on dry hair can help further define the curl type. To avoid frizz, avoid touching the hair too much and spritz strands with water when you need a refresh.

    3B Hair

If you have fluffy, springy ringlets similar in size to a Sharpie marker or your index finger, you might have 3B hair. This type of curl shape can dry out quickly, so it’s important to use conditioners that attract moisture to drench the strands. Sulfate-free products will help hold the moisture in and a styling gel will add definition.

    3C Hair

This hair type features densely packed strands and tight corkscrew curls prone to frizziness and lots of volume. Again, sulfate-free products that offer lots of moisture will keep curls looking nourished and bouncy. Deep conditioning treatments will help add extra hydration.

    Type 4: Coily

Afro-textured coily and kinky hair is naturally very dry and has a spongey, soft texture. It can be coarse, fine or wiry and strands can form a zigzag pattern or very tight, small curls. Those with very tightly coiled hair are prone to shrinkage.

    4A Hair

If you have springy curls approximately the size of a crochet needle, you likely have 4A curls. For soft, pliable strands, use a curling cream that adds moisture and don’t rub the curls dry with a towel. Deep condition the strands weekly and air dry them when possible.

    4B Hair

4B curls tend to have sharp angles and a Z-like shape. You can mold and play with the hair to form different shapes and styles and use creams over sprays to ensure lots of moisture for the hair to drink up. Don’t wash the hair too often to avoid depriving strands of natural oils. 4B hair will also drink olive oil, coconut oil and Jamaican black castor oil beautifully. This type of hair is perfect for palm-rolling styling techniques.

    4C Hair

4C and 4B hair have a very similar texture, but generally, 4C hair is more fragile and the hair has a tighter zigzag pattern. This hair type can shrink up to 75% and dryness can cause major concern. The hair is versatile and can be teased and tweaked into beautiful, stand-out styles. 4C hair is prone to heat damage, so pump it full of moisture using only hydrating products.

How Can Progressive Web Apps Support Your Business?

Are you considering investing in an application that will work well on mobile devices? Building a native application has its benefits, but are you still hesitating? A progressive web application (PWA) will be a good alternative. From this article, you can learn how it can improve your business operations.

    What are progressive web apps?

PWA is a web application that runs just like a regular website. However, it has some functionalities typical for mobile applications. It can be launched from the start screen of a smartphone or tablet using a shortcut placed on the screen, although it doesn’t require installation and can also be used offline. Such an application allows using the website on any device (computer, tablet, smartphone), increases the number of page views, reduces the bounce rate, and increases the conversion rate thanks to ensuring a high-quality experience when using the application on mobile devices. The interface and navigation in such an application are typical of mobile applications. The most important features of progressive web applications include:

    • Responsiveness – unlike native applications, PWA isn’t written with a specific operating system (iOS, Android) in mind, but is created to adapt to any screen resolution of the used device.
    • Compatibility with various browsers – a PWA application works properly on the most commonly used browsers.
    • Using the functions of mobile devices – it’s also worth mentioning that, although there are some limitations, these types of applications may also use various functions of mobile devices similar to native applications (e.g. access to geolocation, camera).
    • Possibility of offline use – you can use the functions of a progressive application both online and offline.
    • Automatic updates – the user doesn’t need to worry about checking or downloading new updates as this is carried out automatically.
    • No need for installation – a PWA application doesn’t require downloading or installation on a device. This means that the consumption of the device’s resources is low. Although an icon redirecting to the application will appear on the display, it’s only a shortcut to a web application.

PWA applications guarantee the safety of user data as the connection is made via the encrypted HTTPS protocol. These types of tools can have many interesting functionalities, e.g. the ability to send a push notification. Take a look at the technologies that can be used to create a PWA.

The most important advantages of PWA for business

A progressive web application will work well in companies for which creating a mobile application isn’t necessary or which cannot afford large investments. Remember that native mobile applications for iOS and Android are developed using different technologies, which means that if you choose this solution, you will have to finance building two versions of the application or create a solution for a limited audience. PWA is an application that will be available to all recipients, regardless of the used device.

Positioning the application in the browser

Creating an application is one thing but promoting it is a whole different matter. Progressive web apps are positioned in search engines just like regular websites. What’s important, the websites that adapt to different types of devices are highly rated by Google robots. This will make it easier to run an effective marketing campaign for your new product. Thanks to the ability to download the application via a URL link, you can easily run advertising campaigns using various communication channels – e.g. your own website or social media.

You don’t have to put the application in App Store or Google Play

The potential users of your progressive web application will be able to find it in the browser, which means you won’t have to register it in the App Store or Google Play, or worry about its verification or rating and comments on your product. If you care about it, there’s a technology that is, in a way, an extension of PWA. We mean here TWA (Trusted Web Activity) which allows you to put a PWA in an app store.

    Features useful for e-commerce

PWA will also be a good choice for companies operating within the e-commerce industry. These types of applications have many features useful for supporting online sales. Such functions include, for example, the ability to send push notifications. Thanks to them, you can quickly inform the user of the application when the product they were interested in appears in stock. The function that allows remembering the cart’s contents is also useful as it makes shopping much more comfortable. The buyer will be able to prepare the cart and return to it at any time in order to complete the transaction. You can also use the QR code reading function via your PWA application.

    Examples of progressive web applications

Many well-known companies have decided to build a progressive application instead of investing in multiple versions of a native mobile application. Practice shows that PWA applications are as warmly received by users as native applications.

The e-commerce application of the AliExpress company is a good example. The website of this brand allows you to buy almost any product from China and is popular around the world. The brand wanted to guarantee equally high satisfaction from using their platform to the users of the mobile version of the application, as well as to those who prefer to shop on larger monitors.

    Source: Google Developers

A progressive web application was the best solution, which made it possible to reach Internet users who are more likely to shop on their computers. After implementing the progressive application, AliExpress saw a 104% increase in the new user conversion rate. The session time (among the users using all types of search engines) and the number of pages viewed during a session also increased.

Twitter also uses a progressive application. Twitter’s goal was to create a product that is fast, reliable and engaging for users. Twitter Lite Progressive Web App combines the features of a modern web application and a native mobile application. The release of this PWA resulted in a 75% increase in posted Tweets and a full 20% reduction in the bounce rate. Twitter has also implemented push notifications that work exactly the same as those in mobile applications – regardless of whether the device’s search engine is closed or if the user is currently using it.

MakeMyTrip is an example of a travel progressive web application. Its creation allowed improving the page loading speed by as much as 38%. The conversion rate also tripled. As with Twitter, the bounce rate dropped by as much as 20% compared to the results of their previous mobile application. MakeMyTrip appreciated the fact that the application can be used on any device and operating system. Content is also generated in those search engines which don’t support all PWA functions (e.g. Safari and Firefox).

Training Realm is a progressive web application created for those who want to measure the progress of their training results. As many as 70% of its users reach the Training Realm’s training pages using their phones, therefore it was necessary to create a solution that would allow Internet users to use the functions of this application both on a computer and on mobile devices. A PWA is adapted to such use, and an interesting, good design guarantees a positive user experience.

Testing the solutions may have a positive impact on the company’s sales results. Redesigning and introducing additional elements to the Training Realm application, such as user reviews with photos of their faces, resulted in an 11% increase in the conversion rate. And thanks to the ability to integrate different payment methods in the product, we were able to provide end users with more freedom in paying for the service.

    Summary

Many companies decide to create progressive web applications. Such a solution makes it possible to reach users via any device, without having to invest in creating multiple versions of the application.

We follow the trends and implement the latest solutions to our products. Find out what technologies we use in frontend development.

Partnership with Sydney University: Chicken Nutrition

Chicken is a staple in many Australian diets with 90 percent of the population eating it at least once a week. With increased demand, animal nutritionists are looking at sustainable nutritional strategies to improve nutrient utilisation and feed efficacy. Our Animal Nutritionist, Dr. Yumin Bao will be collaborating with the University of Sydney to conduct two research programs contributing to these sustainable nutritional strategies.

In Australia, the per capita consumption of chicken is expected to reach 50 kg in 2020-21 (Australian Chicken Meat Federation). In order to meet this current demand, the local industry processes more than 600 million birds annually, to produce about 1.2 million tonnes of chicken-meat. However, it is also predicted that by 2050 the Australian population may reach 35 million, increasing the demand on production by 40%, with an additional half million tonnes of chicken-meat or an additional supply of 1 million tonnes of chicken feed. This assumes the per capita consumption remains constant. During this period, if the sustainable nutritional strategy could improve nutrient utilisation and feed efficacy (Feed conversion ratio, FCR) by one point, it would save five thousand tonnes of chicken feed.

Low protein diets balanced with supplemental amino acids

The development of low protein diets balanced with supplemental amino acids for broiler chickens is one of these strategies. The main environmental burden caused by chicken meat production is ammonia emission. A possible way to decrease ammonia emission is to decrease nitrogen excretion by lowing the dietary crude protein content. However, reduced protein diets may result in amino acids being redistributed away from growth and production processes, toward intestinal cells involved in immune and inflammatory responses. Therefore, the ideal amino acid profile, developed in 1994, provides chickens with sufficient but not surplus essential amino acids, such as methionine, lysine, threonine, valine, isoleucine, arginine, tryptophan and leucine. Obviously, if chickens are only provided with natural ingredients such as soybean meal and wheat, it is very difficult to maintain the ideal amino acid profile. Those surplus amino acids cannot be used by chickens and will be excreted via nitrogen. This nitrogen excretion not only contaminates the environment but also depresses FCR. Thus, supplementation of individual L form amino acids naturally produced by bacteria fermentation has been widely practiced in chicken production. However, due to technical issue, L form methionine is just recently available. Synthetic DL form methionine or liquid hydroxyl analogue of methionine HMTBa is usually used in broiler chicken production. Because chickens cannot utilise D form methionine, D form methionine in DL-methionine and D form or L form methionine analogue in HMTBa must be converted to L form methionine by two steps enzyme reactions in chicken body. These enzyme reactions require energy. The current project results will answer if these energy requirements could sacrifice FCR and L form methionine therefore could improve FCR.

    Phosphorus requirement and exogenous phytase

Another project is the supplementation of exogenous phytase to improve nutrient utilisation and feed efficiency. Phytase and phytate-bound phosphorus is invariably present in practical poultry diets which limits phosphorus bioavailability and pollutes the environment. Although phytase has been included in broiler diets for more than 20 years, very few studies reported the efficacy of exogenous phytase in whole grain wheat-based diets, which is a commercial practice in Australia. Furthermore, in most recent studies, the exogenous phytase was assigned with various matrix values, possibly resulting in deficiencies in calcium, phosphorus, energy, digestible lysine, methionine, threonine, tryptophan, valine isoleucine and arginine, leading to depress FCR. This project will investigate the heat stable phytase produced from VTR in China on phosphorus requirement, essential amino acid digestibility and the apparent digestibility of energy for broiler chickens fed with the whole grain wheat based diets.
